UNFINISHED IN SEARCH OF THE MIRACULOUS -  GROUP EXHIBITION - FIVE WALLS GALLERY - 2017
Unfinished in Search of the Miraculous was a group exhibition that brought together teachers and ex students from the diploma of visual arts course at VUT, to explore the notion of the Unfinished in art, and pose the question finality. It references the infamous performance artist Bas Jan Ader and his final uncompleted piece which resulted in his disappearance in 1975.
In this exhibition Feillafes worked with sound to explore the notion of the unfinished, resulting in an intimate sound piece played through a custom made sound system, where the speaker is placed in a recessed cavity facing upward in order to funnel sound in a directional manner instead of being dispersed in the space like a traditional speaker. The composition being played comprised of various sound recordings, from; grinding Japanese sumi ink, to sharpening a pencil. The intention of the piece was to consider the process of making a drawing, the liminal moment of creation, where something is born into existence and in this case is ultimately missing from the final presentation. It was the artist's intention to focus on this moment as the material.
